HYDERABAD: Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has requested his Maharashtra counterpart Devendra Fadnavis to see that the inter-state Lendi irrigation project in Nanded district of Maharashtra is completed at the earliest.
Rao wrote a letter to Fadnavis to this effect on Saturday.
Both the Chief Ministers discussed the Lendi project in Mumbai in February. As a follow-up, the irrigation ministers of both the states met twice in July and November. Yet, certain issues remain unresolved.
“I understand that several issues are yet to be resolved by the Maharashtra government. These include land acquisition and rehabilitation and resettlement of people of the villages which are likely to submerge if the project is built. Getting Central Water Commission (CWC) clearances for the balance of six directorates is still required. Some balance works are to be completed yet,” Rao informed Fadnavis.
“Telangana state has already deposited Rs 189.73 crore as its share as per the requisition received from Maharashtra. The cost of the project has increased from Rs 275.83 crore to Rs 554.54 crore and is likely to be revised further upwards,” Rao said in his letter and urged Fadnavis to intervene in the matter and issue necessary instructions to the officials concerned to complete the project at the earliest.
