HYDERABAD: Trapped in a house engulfed in flames? injured in an accident? or harassed by miscreants? Call 112 and the emergency response team of Telangana will rush to your aid.

The state will soon have an emergency response service on the lines of ‘911’ of United states of America (USA).

In distress of any nature, be it a law and order problem, medical emergency or fire accident, citizens can dial 112 and the emergency response system of the state will respond immediately.

Telangana state, besides Gujarat and Goa, has been selected by the Union Home Ministry for the implementation of National Emergency Response System (NERS), which will be launched soon in these three states and later extended across the country. According to government sources, the equipment and budget for emergency response number “112” will be provided by the Central government.

The officials will be provided equipment to identify the location of the caller. A team from the nearest response hub will rush to the spot and provide help.

“Already, a senior Additional Director General (technical) has been appointed nodal officer for implementing the 112 system. He will oversee the functioning of the system from Hyderabad. Committees too have been formed in all districts to implement the same,” a senior official said.

The State Home department has already constituted a State-level apex committee and district mission committees for implementation of NERS.

“We are expecting the arrival of software and equipment from Central government very soon,” sources added. Though the Centre provides the equipment and software, the men and vehicles required will be provided by the state.

“The State government has already provided ample men and new vehicles. We are fully prepared to attend emergency calls and will provide all help to people in distress,” the official added.

The Emergency response number will be a centralised system which will function round-the-clock. According to sources, the new hotline number “112” will integrate existing emergency numbers like 100 (police), 102 (fire) and ambulance services (108).

The number “112” would become the single emergency response number in the country.
