HYDERABAD:  A petition was filed in the Hyderabad High Court objecting to the title of the Telugu feature film ‘Andhra Pori’ scheduled for release on June 5.

Petitioner Andhra Association of Telangana, a society represented by its president K Veera Raghava Reddy, submitted that the word ‘Pori’ is an objectionable word to degrade the self-respect of the girl as defined under the Indecent Representation of Women (Prohibition) Act, 1986. Such a title is not proper after bifurcation of the state. The film producer has selected the above title for commercial purpose by allegedly violating the guidelines of the Cinematography Act, it added.

The petitioner urged the Court to direct the respondents - Central Board of Film Certification, state cinematography department, Telangana Film Chamber of Commerce etc. to stay exhibition of the film until the title is changed.
