HYDERABAD: Protesting against the recent incidents of police shooting down a group of suspected terrorists and two suspected Maoists in separate incidents, the human rights groups in Telangana have called for ‘Chalo Assembly’ programme on September 30, to exert pressure on the state government to stop fake encounters in Telangana.

Addressing newsmen here on Monday, Varavara Rao, a revolutionary writer and Viplava Rachaitala Sangam (Virasam) founder, said “Encounter-free Telangana is one of the poll promises of chief minister K Chandrashekar Rao, but now he is acting as if his only agenda is taking revenge on Maoists. He is the one who is encouraging fake encounters. To fight against these fake encounters, nearly 400 organizations are coming together on Wednesday and will take part in a march from Sundarayya Vignana Kendram in Baghlingampally to the state Assembly,” he said.

‘’We will meet the chief minister and demand judicial inquiry for all the encounters that happened in Telangana. The police involved in those encounters should be punished and government should take the responsibility,” Rao added.

They described Syed Viqaruddin encounter (in Warangal) and killing of T Shruti and Vidyasagar Reddy, alias Sagar (also in Warangal) as fake encounters. “KCR government killed Viqaruddin and his friends in judicial custody in the name of encounter and again, they did the same thing with Shruti and Sagar in Warangal. The way they killed the alleged Moists are inhuman. KCR is mercilessly hunting down all those Muslim students who took part in Telangana movement. He promised to guard the state but now turned into a hound,“ the Telangana human right groups said.

Mohammed Ahmed, father of alleged terror operative Viqaruddin said that the judiciary is in favour of the government and is not helping the petitioners in any way.

Amjed Ullah Khan of Majlis Bachao Tehreek (MBT) opined that the government should release videos of Vikaruddin encounter. “Whenever accused are transferred from one jail to another, the entire episode will be filmed. Why can’t the government release those videos and prove what they are saying.” Khan said “Even Muslim leaders not even asking the government to do so because they are afraid of police. They are afraid that if they talk about the fake encounters, then the police will dig out the illegal activities they did.”

The participants of the meeting released a poster of Chalo Assembly programme and said that every democratic person should participate in the protest.

Police Say ‘No’ to Chalo Assembly

The City police denied permission for ‘Chalo Assembly’ call given by Human Rights associations on September 30. CPI state Secretary Chada Venkat Reddy wrote to police seeking permission for the Chalo Assembly march. But the police denied permission on the ground that some social elements may sneak into the rally and resort to some violent acts, and that there are no adequate police forces.
