HYDERABAD:The power tariff hike for 2015-16 in Telangana state is very nominal and it is less than the hike proposed in Andhra Pradesh. The average power tariff hike proposed by Telangana Discoms is just 4.9 per cent and the burden on power consumers will be around Rs 1,000 crore.
The power tariff hike proposed by AP Discoms is 5.6 per cent and the burden on consumers around Rs 1,200 crore. Telangana Discoms submitted annual revenue requirement (ARRs) before TS Electricity Regulatory Commission (TSERC) on Saturday night.
Principal secretary (energy) Arvind Kumar, who is in Delhi, discussed the matter with chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao. Later, Disocms submitted ARRs to ERC. The ARRs were to the ERC secretary as the chairman was not available. The Discoms did not disclose details to the media.
As the filing of ARRs delayed abnormally due to creation of the state and also ERC, the Discoms filed the ARRs in a hurried manner, the sources said. The proposals may be uploaded on ERC website on Monday.
However, highly placed sources presented a brief sketch of ARRs to Express.
The average hike in power tariff will be 4.9 pc and the burden proposed is Rs 1,000 crore. There will be no hike for the poorest of the poor and the poor who consume less than 100 units energy per month. The existing tariff for the poor category is Rs 1.45 per unit.
“There is no hike for agriculture consumers. The free supply will continue for farmers. Discoms proposed to supply seven-hour to agriculture,” sources said.
