Movie on Plight of Gulf Migrants

KARIMANGAR:In an attempt to depict the plight of Gulf migrants, Nandi award winning director, P Sunil Kumar Reddy is set to make a movie, ‘Gulf’.Vizag based Sunil had previously directed Hero, a children’s movie and ‘Sontha Vooru’. Though they were commercial movies, they got critical acclaim.

‘Chance’, a  short film by him had won two Nandi awards and it was also screened at Cairo film festival.

Revealing his plans at Karimnagar Film Society office on Saturday, he said that he had begun research into Gulf migrants who leave the country for a livelihood. “Most of the people from the two Telugu states, who migrated to Gulf countries, are facing hardships,“ he said and added that he also plans to visit Gulf countries as a part of research.

“Though, the theme of the movie is socially relevant, it will also have commercial elements,” he explained. Sunil said that every year, about Rs 80,000 crore comes to India from the Gulf from remittance by migrant workers. Film critic and former film society president, Vaarala Anand welcomed the effort and added that he has to do extensive study before making the film, as the Gulf migrants’ issue is very  complex.
