TPCC Chief: I'll Strive to Strengthen Party

HYDERABAD:Stating that the organisational structure of the Congress party -- right from village to state level -- in Telangana will witness a sea change, newly appointed TPCC chief N Uttam Kumar Reddy has said that the new team will be a blend of young and senior leaders.

Uttam Kumar Reddy, whose appointment was made official on Monday, spoke to reporters here. The TPCC chief said his immediate responsibility is to strengthen the party from village to state level and this would be done in a span of two to three months.

‘’Youth and those leaders, who were deprieved of party posts earlier, will find place in the new team. The new team will be a blend of youth and seniors,’’ he said.

On the question that BCs were given a raw deal in the party posts, Uttam Kumar Reddy said the party will ensure social justice when the organisational restructuring is done in the coming months. ‘’Even in AICC, there will be a leader from Telangana state soon,’’ he said.

Uttam Kumar Reddy said as the opposition party, they have the responsibility to question the failures of the ruling party and when the government schemes are not reaching the people. ‘’We will take the government to task both inside and outside the Assembly. We will work in tandem with senior leader and leader of opposition K Jana Reddy,’’ he said.

Uttam Kumar Reddy said the TRS government failed to fulfil its poll promises. On the other hand, chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao and other ministers were resorting to political immoraility by encouraging defections of MLAs and leaders from other parties, he alleged.

Meanwhile, voices of opposition against Uttam Kumar Reddy’s elevation as TPCC chief came from various quarters including senior leaders V Hanumantha Rao and others.

Some questioned as to why a leader from Nalgonda was chosen when the leader of opposition in the state Assembly also hails from the same district.

‘’A leader from a district, which has low representation in the Assembly and Council, should have been elected for the post. The party is already strong in Nalgonda and Khammam and there is no need to give post to a leader from these districts,’’ another leader commented.

Meanwhile, several senior leaders and former MLAs met and congratulated Uttam Kumar Reddy for being appointed to the post.
