HYDERABAD: On the eve of 70th Independence Day, CM K Chandrasekhar Rao on Sunday directed officials to construct one lakh houses in Hyderabad and two lakh houses across the State for people living Below Poverty Line (BPL) as part of the State government’s flagship double-bedroom housing scheme.

He also asked them to chalk out a masterplan to transform all crowded slums in the Hyderabad city into attractive residential colonies.  KCR, who held a lengthy meeting with the officials of housing department to review the progress of construction of double bedroom houses, directed them to expedite the process. “If more land is needed for the construction of double bedroom houses for the poor, the government is ready to allot it. Utilise the land belonging to TSIIC and other departments for this purpose,” the CM said.

According to the CMO, KCR asked officials to take steps to provide all amenities like electricity, water and drainage systems in all slums in urban areas across TS.  As sufficient land is not available in Hyderabad unlike rural areas across, the CM ordered officials to continue with the earlier proposal of construction of multi-storeyed buildings in Hyderabad to allot double bedroom flats to each beneficiary. “These buildings can be built with three to nine storeys to accommodate as many families as possibly in Hyderabad,” KCR said. He suggested using Mivan technology, which uses ‘Aluminium Framework’, to complete this project. “Try to allot the works to local contractors in each district. This will help us complete the construction of houses at the earliest. The government is ready to provide sand needed for these houses free of cost. We will also take measures to convince cement companies to supply required cement for this project at low prices,” KCR said.
