HYDERABAD: Adopting a ‘pragmatic approach’ with Maharashtra government, Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao on Tuesday signed three agreements, including the one on construction of an inter-state Medigadda barrage, which is proposed to irrigate around 36 lakh acres in Telangana and 30,000 acres in three districts in Maharashtra. At the first meeting of “Inter-State Board for Joint Irrigation Projects between Maharashtra and Telangana states”, CMs of both TS and Maharashtra K Chandrasekhar Rao and Devendra Fadnavis respectively signed the three MoUs.

With these agreements, now the state government would expedite the works on the  Kaleshwaram lift irrigation project, considered lifeline of Telangana and also an alternative to the original Pranahita-Chevella project.

The three pacts

MEDIGADDA: An inter-state barrage to be constructed with a height of 100 metres

TUMMADI HATTI: To be constructed with a height of 148 metres and store 1.8 tmca

CHANAKHA-KORATA: To be constructed with a height of 213 metres
