HYDERABAD: A day after the Andhra Pradesh officials objected to the presence of R Vidyasagar Rao, irrigation advisor of the Telangana government, in the Godavari River Management Board meeting, the Telangana  government has decided to send Vidyasagar Rao to the meetings of both Krishna and Godavari River Management Boards in future.

On behalf of Telangana government, irrigation principal secretary and irrigation advisor R Vidyasagar Rao will attend the board meetings of KRMB and GRMB.

In case of Vidyasagar Rao not attending the meetings, then only the engineer-in-chief will attend on behalf of TS government.

After yesterday’s embarrassment at GRMB meeting, Vidyasagar Rao reportedly took up the matter with chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao.

“The state government has decided to write a letter to the GRMB chairman Ram Saran that Vidyasagar Rao will attend the river management board meetings on behalf of Telangana government,” official sources in the irrigation department told Express.

The government’s decision to send Vidyasagar Rao is due to his vast experience.

Vidyasagar Rao even has knowledge in water laws and worked in Central Water Commission in the past. Normally, the engineer-in-chiefs have experience in  executing projects but are not well versed with legal aspects of water disputes, sources pointed out, justifying the TS govt’s stand.
