HYDERABAD: Students, parents and academicians have hailed the decision to conduct EAMCET-2016 online and introduction of 1+1 OMR sheets.
The high-power committee, constituted by the Telangana State Council for Higher Education (TSCHE), has come up with important decisions such as introducing online examination for TS EAMCET-2016, providing 1+1 OMR sheets to candidates and introduction of biometric system.
Though the nitty-gritty about implementing the new initiatives is yet to be ascertained, all the stakeholders are welcoming the new initiatives.
“Introduction of online examination for EAMCET is welcome. Already many national- level common entrance tests and exams like GRE are held online. Online EAMCET will definitely help today’s tech-savvy students who feel more comfortable online. Also, if a copy of OMR sheet is given to students, they themselves can check their performance and there will be no scope for any doubts or recounting,” said A Suvarchala, the parent of a second-year Intermediate student. Online TS EAMCET-2016 will be held initially in Agriculture and Medicine (AM) streams only. Simultaneously, offline examination will also be held as the existing infrastructure is accommodate the large number of students taking EAMCET.
“The total number of applications for TS EAMCET (AM) stream are expected to be more than one lakh and with the available infrastructure it may be difficult to hold online examination for one lakh candidates in a single session. Hence the committee’s recommendation that both online and offline (OMR) tests be conducted this year,” said T.Papi Reddy, chairman of TSCHE.
Candidates will be given the option to choose between online and offline. The online examination centres will only be in Hyderabad and Warangal.
Besides the online examination, 1+1 OMR sheet and biometric finger-printing will be introduced for all TS CETs in 2016 to prevent impersonation. “Many a time we hear students complain about counting. If they are given a copy of OMR sheet, then there will be no scope for such complaints. Also the fingerprint data collected during entrance examination can be used even at the time of certificate verification during web counselling for permitting the candidate for admission. This will save students time and relieve them from lengthy paper work and admission processes,” said L.Praveen Kumar, associate professor at TRR Engineering College, Hyderabad.
