

HYDERABAD: Laying emphasis on the need to focus on skill development, representatives of various departments from the TS government came together on Thursday to present the Telangana State Draft Skill Policy on the 7th CII global summit on skill development here on Thursday. BV Papa Rao, special advisor to government presented the draft policy.
“We have decided that we will not have any varsities set up for skill development as we believe that university system has failed in creating skills among people for employment. Though we will adopt the national policy, this is one thing we will not be doing,” he said.
Out of the total population of TS, which is, 3.5 cr, there are 2.2 cr people who fall in the age group of 15-59 and 1.51 cr people in this bracket are active job seekers.
“There are unskilled people in this section of the population and in order to address this, the industry needs to work with the government,” said BP Acharya, Principal Secretary, Dept of Planning.
