HYDERABAD: Telangana state public prosecutor C Pratap Reddy on Monday informed the Hyderabad High Court that he would advise the Hyderabad police to slap Section 325 IPC (punishment for voluntarily causing grievous hurt and carries a maximum punishment of seven years imprisonment) in the case of an errant doctor rammed into the vehicle of a retired captain near the Shamshabad airport incapacitating the latter for the rest of his life. The PP’s advise would send a strong message to those who indulge in drunken driving.

Pratap Reddy made this submission to Justice M S Ramachandra Rao who was dealing with a petition by Dr T Bhaskar questioning the unwillingness of the police in taking serious action against a medical practitioner for drunken driving  where his father retired Captain T Kameswara Rao was crushed severely.

On an earlier occasion, the judge asked the state public prosecutor to assist the court in the case seeking stringent action against the person responsible for road accident on account of drunken driving. Though the police booked the doctor, Sidhartha Darapuneni, who is said to be working with Century Super Speciality hospitals in Banjara Hills, the petitioner charged them with filling the FIR with mild sections that lead to his release through bail.

While asking the authorities to take cases of drunken driving) seriously, the judge posted the matter to next week for further hearing.
