HYDERABAD: Telangana Postal Service, carved out of the  undivided Andhra Pradesh Circle, was inaugurated by Union minister of information and broadcasting M Venkaiah Naidu here on Monday.

“The separate circle for Telangana has been formed as per the AP Reorganisation Act, 2014. The staff too have been divided and allocated between the two states and they will function accordingly for better administration and service,” he said.

Terming the postman as an important link to the remotest and rural parts of the country, Naidu said the postman would play an imortant role in ushering in prime minister Narendra Modi’s Vision India which aims at financial inclusion of all people.

“The postal department is one of the vital service providers in the country and we are doing all that is required to take it forward. Being the only service provider that does not seek profits but is self-sustaining, it will help the ambitious government’s schemes reach the poorest of the poor.

“For schemes like Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana and Jeevan Bhima Yojana, the government wants to ensure that the benefit reaches the beneficiary as well as in entirety. We have the Direct Benefit Transfer System in place for that which can be executed by the postal department,” he said.

He added that post office was still relevant and  the department would continue to serve the rural India.

Union minister of state for labour Bandaru Dattatreya also lauded the services of the postal department. Stressing the importance of the Direct Benefit Transfer System, he appealed to Union minister of state for telecommunications Manoj Sinha, who was also present at the function, to strengthen telecom network in Nalgonda and Nizamabad districts.

Sinha said his ministry was doing its best to improve the functioning of the postal department and make it modern.
