TRS nominates Capt V Lakshmikantha Rao and D Srinivas for Rajya Sabha

After several rounds of discussions about the candidature of nearly half-a-dozen aspirants, the TRS leadership decided on the names.

HYDERABAD: The Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) has finally choose two senior leaders -- Capt V Lakshmikantha Rao and D Srinivas -- by nominating them to the Rajya Sabha.

After several rounds of discussions about the candidature of nearly half-a-dozen aspirants, the TRS leadership decided to send Captain (Lakshmikantha Rao) and DS (D Srinivas) to the Upper House.

While Lakshmikantha Rao hails from Brahmin community, DS hails from Munnuru Kapu (BC) community.

Lakshmikantha Rao has been a close confidant of Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao and was with the TRS since its formation. He was among the leaders who were with KCR in the thick and thin of separate Telangana movement.

Lakshmikantha Rao's son V Satish Kumar is also a TRS MLA. In case of Lakshmikantha Rao, party sources said loyalty and sincerity for the cause of separate Telangana.

Lakshmikantha Rao thanked CM KCR for keeping faith on him.

Meanwhile, DS was given a chance as he has good contacts with national leaders of various parties and could take up the issues related to the state with them.

In the wake of any cabinet reshuffle and removal of a BC minister from the state cabinet, the party can consolidate the damage by the promotion given to DS, sources said.

On the other hand, the TRS decided to field former minister Mohammed Fareeduddin as the party's candidate for the MLC seat that fell vacant after Tummala Nageswara Rao resigned to it following his victory from Palair Assembly segment recently.

Meanwhile, the YSRC has decided to field YS Jagan Mohan Reddy's close aide and party general secretary V Vijaya Sai Reddy as its Rajya Sabha candidate from Andhra Pradesh state.
