In suspected hate crime, Telangana youth robbed at gunpoint in US

HYDERABAD: In yet another suspected case of hate crime in the United States, a Telangana youngster working at a supermarket was robbed at gunpoint in Clinton City. The masked robber shouted 'Get out of my country. Get out of My country' before leaving the place.

The entire incident was witnessed by the youngster's mother back in Srirampur village in Mancherial district as she was on a video call with her son.

According to family members, a man wearing a black mask entered the super market armed with a gun on Sunday night around 7.40 pm to 8 pm.

Sai Varun, the youngster from Telangana, was at the cash counter and was speaking with his mother, Jaya Lakshmi, over video call. The gunman walked towards the cash counter, pointed the weapon at Varun and robbed cash.

"Before leaving, the intruder shouted 'Get out from my country. Get out from my country,'' Varun's father S Vijay Bhaskar Rao said.

The supermarket is also owned by an Indian.

According to S Vijay Bhaskar Rao, Jaya Lakshmi was shocked at seeing his son being robbed at gunpoint and she immediately alerted their elder son, Sai Kiran, who has completed MS and is working in Clinton City.

Sai Kiran rushed to the store but by then the intruder had escaped with cash.

"We appeal to the State and Central governments to take steps to see that racial attacks stop in the US,'' Vijay Bhaskar Rao said. He was a Singerani collieries company limited (SCCL) worker. His two sons went to the US for higher education and settled down in Clinton City.

Meanwhile, reports reaching here said the local police there is investigating the incident with the help of video footage from CCTVs.
