HYDERABAD: A day after she was beaten up by her in-laws while attending the last rites of her husband, Seattle software engineer Madhukar Reddy Gudur’s wife Swathi has denied a role in his death, and claimed he was suffering from depression.

Madhukar Reddy ended his life on April 4 in Seattle, and his body reached Bhongir in Nalgonda on Tuesday for the final rites. During the ceremony, Madhukar Reddy's family attacked Swathi, blaming her for his death.

Swathi feared a threat to her life from Madhukar Reddy's family and sought the Telangana government's help in providing her with security.

"I am in deep sorrow after the sudden death of Madhukar Reddy. I have a four-year old daughter and I request my in-laws to help me in taking care of my daughter," Swathi said.

Swathi told media in Hyderabad on Wednesday that Madhukar Reddy, who worked from home in the USA was depressed due to work pressure. "I requested him to consult a doctor for proper treatment after I noticed his attitude and behaviour. Madhukar obliged and he was taking treatment for depression,'' Swathi said.

Swathi added that Madhukar’s browse history showed sites he had visited to know how to commit suicide.
