TJAC to government: Clarify stand on revival of Nizam Sugars

Telangana Joint Action Committee (TJAC) chairman Prof M Kodandaram demanded state government to announce its plan of action to revive and protect Nizam Sugar Factory (NSF), one of Telangana’s historic

NIZAMABAD: Telangana Joint Action Committee (TJAC) chairman Prof M Kodandaram demanded state government announce its plan of action to revive and protect Nizam Sugar Factory (NSF), one of Telangana’s historical Public Sector Companies.

NSF Rakshana Samithi organised Padayatra and public meeting in Bodhan town on Monday and submitted a memorandum to sub-collector along with JAC leaders demanding government to take steps to revive NSF and provide salaries to the workers.

Addressing the public meeting, TJAC chairman said the previous governments tried to close NSF to provide benefits to private entrepreneurs but the people of the state believed that after the formation of Telangana, the government will take steps to revive the factory. However, people suffered serious disappointment after the last three years’ developments, he added.

“Even in united Andhra Pradesh NSF functioned but after the formation of Telangana state the organisation was closed down and due to that farmers chose other alternatives and NSF workers turned to daily wage labour to lead their families,” he said.

He took strong objection on the government statements and said it is not good for any elected government to make false statements on revival of NSF. He alleged that the government is misleading the people.

“The government is saying that the farmers should run the factory but when the government is unable to run it how can the inexperienced farmers can take the new responsibility? The government should understand that even farmers’ cooperative banks are also run by officers in the name of farmers’ associations,” the chairman said.

He said several rumours and speculations are going on in political and industrial circles on NSF revival issue and the government should clarify its position. He accused local MLA and MP and questioned why they became mute spectators and not coming to the rescue of the people to build pressure on the government on revival of NSF and its units in other districts.

He recalled that Nizam Sugars played key role in economic development of Bodhan town and Nizamabad district and added that TJAC will announce an action plan to take up agitations to force the government to take a decision on NSF soon.
