Telangana handloom dept inks pact with Amazon India

Now, the handloom weavers and artisans of Telangana will go online to market their produce thanks to the initiative of Telangana government and e-commerce giant Amazon.

HYDERABAD: Now, the handloom weavers and artisans of Telangana will go online to market their produce thanks to the initiative of Telangana government and e-commerce giant Amazon.

Telangana department of handlooms and textiles has entered into an MoU with Amazon India to market handlooms produced by Telangana weavers through the e-commerce portal.

Telangana is popular for handloom textiles with several handloom clusters like Gadwal, Pochampally, Narayanpet, Sircilla located in the state. As part of the MoU, Amazon India will educate, train and guide handloom artisans to sell their products directly to customers through the e-commerce platform.

“We are glad to partner with Amazon, which has deep understanding of customers’ preferences. The expertise of Amazon will help handloom weavers and artisans from Telangana to showcase and sell their products. With a vast base of customers, Amazon India will open up new market avenues for Telangana handlooms,” said Jayesh Ranjan, industries secretary,  in a press release on Tuesday.

The products of Telangana handlooms weavers will be available on ‘Handicrafts and Handlooms’ store on Amazon.in.
