HYDERABAD: It was a new lease of life for V Divya, a former analyst with Google, who has successfully undergone liver transplantation surgery at Osmania General Hospital (OGH) on November 24.  She missed out on the surgery in November first week as the hospital ran out of organ preservative solution. Divya (27),  who joined Cognizant, had to abruptly discontinue on the first day at  office as her condition worsened because of Autoimmune Hepatitis.  Private hospitals quoted Rs 50 lakh for a liver transplantation surgery.  Left with no options she was admitted to OGH.

“Private hospitals quoted Rs 50 lakh for the surgery and we could not afford that amount. My mother is a school teacher and father is a conductor. I used to earn Rs 15,000. When I was admitted to OGH, we did not expect I would undergo a surgery. Even now I cannot believe it. I want to tell people about the medical services available for free at Osmania General Hospital,” said Divya speaking at a press conference here on Wednesday at the hospital.

Incidentally, doctors found a matching liver for her in November first week. The organ had to be brought from a private hospital. However, she missed out on the crucial transplantation as OGH ran out of organ preservative solution.  But as luck would have it the hospital found a matching donor again and the surgery was performed successfully on her on November 24.
