

HYDERABAD: The state government is keen on developing sheep rearing as a big industry in the State in the coming days, chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has said.
Speaking at a review meeting on the fisheries and sheep rearing wings of the animal husbandry department here on Sunday, he said development of fisheries and sheep- rearing would play a major role in revamping the rural economy in the state. He wanted the state to become one of the major exporters of sheep meat to other states and countries.
In this context, the Chief Minister announced that a cabinet sub-committee headed by minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav was constituted to prepare a comprehensive plan of action on the development of fisheries and sheep-rearing.
“People are going to get a larger benefit thanks to the irrigation projects and other schemes of the state government. Now the focus should be on having a detailed action plan to develop and help people who rely on their hereditary trades. My government’s aim is to make all sections of the people happy.”
Rao instructed the officials concerned to take all possible measures through the department to promote sheep farming. Through sheep farming all the Yadavs should become better off financially and the profession should be made profitable.
The Chief Minister said sheep can be bought from Maharashtra, Karnataka and Andhra. In future, Telangana should become the centre for sheep farming and export, and become a role model to other states, he said during a detailed discussion on sheep rearing and other issues.
Assembly Speaker Madhusudhana Chary, ministers Etela Rajender, Nayani Narasimha Reddy, Talasani Srinivas Yadav, Pocharam Srinivas Reddy and Tummala Nageswara Rao, Parliament member Vinod Kumar, Mission Bhagiratha vice-chairman Vemula Prashanth Reddy, State Civil Supplies Corporation chairman Peddireddi Sudarshan Reddy, Sheep Rearers Associations Federation chairman Rajaiah Yadav, animal husbandry special chief secretary Suresh Chandra and representatives from several sheep rearing co-operative societies from districts participated in the meet.
