HYDERABAD: Irrigation officials from Telangana alleged that despite the Krishna River Management Board (KRMB) officially asking Andhra Pradesh to stop drawing Krishna water from Pothireddypadu head regulator, AP drew water on Wednesday too.“Our officials from Pothireddypadu informed us that AP did not stop the water drawal, despite the KRMB’s directive,” an official in Telangana irrigation department told Express.
After repeated requests by Telangana government, the KRMB had written to Andhra Pradesh on Tuesday to stop drawing water from Pothireddypadu head regulator as it had already drawn more than its allocated share. A team of officials from Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Krishna River Management Board (KRMB) visited Pothireddypadu head regulator site on Wednesday to study the water drawal by AP and also the alleged tampering of telemetry system by AP.
Representatives of Mechatronics, the contracting agency which calibrated the telemetry, also accompanied the official team. After TS government lodged a complaint with the KRMB, the Board decided to send the team for studying the actual drawal of water by AP government. The team has not yet come to a conclusion on how much excess water Andhra Pradesh drew from Pothireddypadu. While the water war continued, the water storage at Srisailam reached 187.71 tmc on Wednesday, as against the full storage capacity of 215.81.
