Telangana government to dole out cheques for self-employment of backward castes

The government issued orders on Thursday on economic support schemes with 100 pc subsidy for Backward Classes.

HYDERABAD: After distributing cheques to farmers, the state government has decided to distribute cheques to BCs for self-employment schemes. The amounts, ranging up to Rs 50,000, will be a grant and the beneficiaries need not return the money to the government.

The government issued orders on Thursday on economic support schemes with 100 pc subsidy for Backward Classes. According to the orders issued by BC welfare department secretary B Venkatesham, 100 pc subsidy will be given as a grant to the unit cost of `50,000 from BC Corporation/respective federations to the applicants who have applied for industries, services and business sector (ISB Sector), petty business.

The sanctioned funds should be utilized for purchasing material like vegetables, fruits, bangles stores etc as per their line of business. Grant will be given by cheque.

A subsidy of Rs 80,000 will be given to other applicants who have applied for upgrading traditional occupations by buying tools, equipment, machinery.  

The remaining Rs 20,000 should be contributed by the applicant. The total fund for the unit would be `1 lakh in this category.  The respective BC Corporation or 11 BC federations will make a list of manufacturers and suppliers for occupation-wise material/equipment/machinery.

The applicant is free to buy from any one of them or from wherever he/she wants. The list of suppliers is only for guidance purpose.

Other BCs like artisans like Vishwabrahmin, Nayeebrahmin, and Kummari will also get a subsidy of `80,000.

Out of a unit cost of Rs 1 lakh, Rs 20,000 should be the beneficiary’s contribution and a cheque will be issued directly to the beneficiary for the purchase of machinery, material, etc. for business.

For toddy-tappers, the government will also implement some innovative schemes like Neera, plantation of Palmyra, dates and palm trees.
