HYDERABAD: A letter written by the Indian Consulate in New Jersey has indicated that Mirza Ahmed Ali Baig who has been missing in the USA for a week, was not kidnapped as feared by his brother, but has instead fled.

“A call made to his employer reveals that Baig had taken about $514 from the store registry and left the store without informing anybody or even closing the shop where he was working alone on July 20,” Juhi Tripathi, a Consulate official said in the letter.

Earlier, Ahmed’s brother had told Express that he feared his brother might have been abducted as he was being harassed by an extortionist.

The letter also revealed that it was Ahmed who took his visa and passport from his apartment. Reportedly, Ahmed had told his roommate that he was going away for his personal reasons, according to the letter.
