Government to seek more grants for State

With this, Chief Secretary SK Joshi on Monday wanted all the department secretaries to prepare the performance indicators and parameters to get more funds from the FFC in the next five years.

HYDERABAD: The State government will explain to the 15th Finance Commission that Telangana is performing better and seek increase in the share of grants to Telangana. For the first time, the finance commission has decided to give more grants based on the performance of the states.

With this, Chief Secretary SK Joshi on Monday wanted all the department secretaries to prepare the performance indicators and parameters to get more funds from the FFC in the next five years. The FFC team is expected visit the state in October. “We have asked the departments to send their indicators in one week,” an official in finance department told Express.  

The FFC will give its recommendations for 2020-25. Thus, the state government decided to get more funds. The 14th Finance Commission recommended only 2.44 per cent of central taxes to Telangana.  Besides, the state government is also trying to get more funds for urban local bodies and Panchayat Raj bodies.

The state will highlight the impact of green cover under Haritha Haaram, construction of lift irrigation schemes including Kaleshwaram, reduction of power losses, highest rank in Ease of Doing Business, Rythu Bandhu scheme etc.
