HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad High Court on Tuesday directed the State government and its police to respond to a petition filed seeking permission to the proposed public meeting of Telangana Jana Samithi (TJS), a new political party floated by Prof M Kodandaram, in the city on April 29.

Justice M Seetharama Murti was dealing with a petition filed by the TJS, represented by its state unit president Ambati Srinivas, challenging the rejection orders of the DCP of Rachakonda commissionerate in LB Nagar for holding the party’s public meeting at Saroornagar stadium. Petitioner’s counsel B Rachna Reddy told the court that it has become a habit of the police to reject permission to any of their meetings and in adopting delayed tactics in granting permissions citing law and order problem. She urged the court to issue directions to the authorities concerned for granting permission to the proposed meeting on April 29 either at Saroornagar stadium, NTR grounds, Nizam college or LB stadium in the city. The judge asked the counsel whether they obtained consent from the authorities of Saroornagar stadium and other proposed venues, to which she replied positively.

On the other hand, special counsel for Telangana S Sharat Kumar sought some time for filing counter affidavit on the issue. The judge directed the counsel to tell government and police to respond, and posted the matter to April 16 for further hearing.

May tie up with TJS for Assembly polls: CPM

“Though the CPM is keen on forging an alliance with Pawan Kalyan’s Jana Sena in Telangana for the Assembly polls, there has been no response from the film actor,” CPM state secretary Tammineni Veerabhadram said on Tuesday. He said they were holding talks with M Kodandaram for a possible electoral tie-up with the latter’s TJS. He said, “I don’t think KCR’s Front is going to materialise. Only parties with national presence have the capacity to form alternative fronts.”

TS doesn’t need Kodandaram: TRS

TRS MP Balka Suman has alleged that Kodandaram is working with a single-point agenda of casting aspersions on the state government. “The professor is behaving unfairly. He is undertaking a propaganda against the government,” he said while inducting some student union leaders from NSUI and TNSF _ into the ruling party at Telangana Bhavan here on Tuesday. Suman said a person like Kodandaram was not needed for the society in Telangana.
