KARIMNAGAR:  In a major achievement for Telangana, Jammikunta police station, which falls under Karimnagar police commissionerate, was selected by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) as one of the Top 10 police stations in the country for 2020. The Jammikunta police station was ranked among Top 10 from a list of 16,671 stations across the country.

The parameters for the ranking process included improvement in women safety, crime control and prevention, number of CCTVs installed, use of technology in tracing missing persons and addressing property offences, crime against women, crime against weaker sections, missing persons etc. The stations were ranked after a survey conducted among citizens. Three new parameters were added this year by the Centre. These included — missing persons, unidentified found person and unidentified dead bodies.

According to sources, there has not been even a single murder case reported under the police station limits since 2019. Surprisingly, no robbery cases have been reported here since 2016. The Jammikunta police station had recently garnered praise from all sections for saving two workers who got trapped in a domestic well. This mission was carried out under the aegis of CI K Srujan Reddy.

Similarly, the cops in Jammikunta have managed, with their hard work, to bring down the number of road accidents from nine to seven. Jammikunta has not reported even a single case of kidnap this year. When Express spoke to a local resident, who had recently gone to the Jammikunta station to file a plaint, he said: “From the low-ranked cops to the station officer, all of them treated me well when I went their to file a complaint. They helped me in all possible ways to make the process easy.”

On learning about this, Commissioner of Police (CP) VB Kamalasan Reddy pointed out that this is the second consecutive year that a police station under Karimnagar commissionerate has been ranked among the best police stations in the country. The entire compound has been developed in such a way that it resembles a mini park, with fully-equipped office chambers and parking lots.
On the occasion, an award of `2 lakh was announced by the State government for further development of the station.
