ADILABAD: If recent developments are any indiction, a huge question mark hangs over the future of BRS Bellampally MLA Durgam Chinnaiah. During his visit to Mancherial district a couple of days ago, BRS working president and minister KT Rama Rao did not mention Chinnaiah’s name at a public event in the latter’s constituency.

It came as a surprise to many as Rama Rao, off late, has been appealing to people to elect the sitting MLAs of the constituencies during his visits in view of fast approaching elections. But his silence on Chinnaiah who was recently accused by a woman, one of the partners in a dairy unit, and an employee, of demanding sexual favours. He is also facing several other allegations of indiscretion and corruption.

Following these developments, Chinnaiah and his followers are worried about their future. Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao is closely watching the performance of his party MLAs in their respective constituencies and their popularity to decide whether to field the incumbent MLAs or replace them with those who stand better chances of winning the election.

Another reason that worries the MLA is that the ruling party which pulled off a victory in Munugode byelection by aligning with CPM may allot the Bellampally seat to a leader with communist background as the constituency is a bastion of left activities.

However, some observers opine that the IT Minister desisted from endorsing the candidature of Chinnaiah in order not to alienate four other strong contenders for the seat. Though Chinnaiah’s followers are confident of their leader getting renominated by the party, all is not well considering the serious allegations made against him by a woman entrepreneur and an employee.

The woman in question is Sejal alias Shailaja, a partner in Origin Dairy the establishment of which was halted allegedly by the MLA. Police also registered cases against the woman and detained her for allegedly cheating local farmers.Sejal in a social media video on Monday said that if she was given a chance to meet Rama Rao she would give an account of Chinnaiah’s ‘illegal activities’.
