HYDERABAD: Justice K Sujana of the Telangana High Court on Thursday extended the interim bail granted to suspended ACP N Bhujanga Rao, accused No 3 in the ongoing phone tapping case, until November 18 on medical grounds.

Justice Sujana, who was hearing a lunch motion criminal petition filed by Bhujanga Rao, granted interim bail extension after his counsel cited serious health concerns, including heart and kidney ailments. Bhujanga Rao had initially filed the petition after the First Metropolitan Sessions Judge (MSJ) at Nampally rejected his request for an extension of his interim bail, directing him to surrender before the XIV Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court by 4.30 pm on Thursday.

Aggrieved by this order, he moved the high court through the lunch motion petition, seeking relief on medical grounds. During the hearing, senior counsel representing Bhujanga Rao informed the court that the petitioner’s health had significantly deteriorated.

He already had a stent implanted in his heart and was also suffering from kidney problems.

His doctors had advised him to undergo dialysis, and his creatinine levels were rising, indicating further complications, senior counsel said and argued that his health may worsen if sent back to jail. Meanwhile, the criminal petition filed by P Radha Kishan Rao, accused No. 5 in the case, seeking bail was also adjourned to November 18.
