HYDERABAD: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Saturday informed the Political Affairs Committee (PAC), the TPCC’s top decision-making body, that the state government has appointed two senior counsels to represent the Telangana government to build a strong case in the Supreme Court for setting a three-month deadline for the President to decide on state Bills.

The state government is likely to place its arguments in the ongoing Tamil Nadu vs Governor-related case in the apex court, instead of filing a separate case as it would be a long-drawn legal process.

The party is also learnt to have decided to complete the local body elections within the September 30 deadline imposed by the high court.

The chief minister made this announcement during the joint sitting of PAC and Advisory Committee, which lasted for close to three and a half hours at Gandhi Bhavan on Saturday. The meeting was attended by almost all the Cabinet ministers, TPCC president B Mahesh Kumar Goud, AICC Telangana in-charge Meenakshi Natarajan, and other senior leaders.

Briefing the media, Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka and Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy said that the Congress has decided to constitute a committee which would hold wide consultations to gather legal opinions from people like Justice Sudershan Reddy, the advocate general of Telangana and senior counsels at the national level.

The committee would possibly look into the implementation of 42% reservations in the local body elections.

TPCC committee on BC quota to complete consultation by August 26

The TPCC chief said that the committee comprises Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, N Uttam Kumar Reddy, D Sridhar Babu, Ponnam Prabhakar and Danasari Anasuya.

The committee is tasked to complete the consultations by August 26, and a report would be submitted to the party as well as the government, Bhatti Vikramarka said. Later, the same would be discussed in the state Cabinet meeting, which is likely to be held in the last week of August.

The PAC also decided to seek support of all the regional political parties in the two Telugu states, including BRS, TDP, YSRCP, Jana Sena to support INDIA alliance Vice-President candidate Justice Sudhardhan Reddy (retired).

The PAC also expressed deep anguish over the demise of former CPI general secretary Suravaram Sudhakar Reddy. The deputy CM said that Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy and party senior leaders will pay tributes to the mortal remains of the communist leader at Makhdoom Bhavan on Sunday morning.

Earlier in the day, Revanth Reddy convened a meeting at his residence with Vikramarka, Mahesh Kumar Goud, and Meenakshi Natarajan and discussed various issues. It is learnt that notices issued by the Assembly Speaker to the BRS MLAs who allegedly joined the Congress was one of the agenda items during the meeting.

During the PAC, it was also decided that the Cabinet ministers led by the chief minister will participate in Rahul Gandhi’s ongoing ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra’ in Bihar on August 26 to extend solidarity. The chief minister also released a poster on ‘Vote Chori’ campaign.
