HYBERABAD: On the 13th day of the rescue operations at the Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC) tunnel on Thursday, officials deployed cadaver dogs to assist in the search. These dogs are specially trained to locate human remains. A trial was conducted this evening with cadaver dogs.
The dogs, accompanied by trained personnel, are scheduled to be taken into the tunnel on Friday. They will be brought in from Kerala. As of now, the whereabouts of eight workers trapped inside the tunnel on February 22 remain unknown.
Meanwhile, experts of IIT along with Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL), the Army and NDRF went inside the tunnel today. The officials have decided to remove slush using escalator and also continue dwatering of the tunnel.
Meanwhile, National Disaster Management Authority (NDSA) secretary Kirti Pratap Singh supervised the rescue operations today. State Disaster Management special chief secretary Arvind Kumar explained the ongoing rescue operations to Singh. Arvind Kumar said that the tunnel boring machine was being cut into pieces. He said that the conveyor belt was restored and carrying the slush.
