HYDERABAD: The Crime Investigation Department on Tuesday issued a notice to Huzurabad BRS MLA Padi Kaushik Reddy in connection with a case relating to a road blockade during the Sammakka–Saralamma Jatara, directing him to appear for questioning on April 4. The notice was served under Section 35(3) of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita.

According to the police, the incident occurred on January 29 at KC Camp Chowrasta in Huzurabad. While police personnel were on bandobast duty for the jatara, Kaushik Reddy, along with his supporters, allegedly staged a sit-in on the road, and obstructed the free flow of traffic, causing inconvenience to the public. He is also accused of stopping vehicles and pedestrians and obstructing police officials in the discharge of their duties.

The notice further stated that during the incident, Kaushik Reddy allegedly made derogatory, abusive, and objectionable remarks against the Karimnagar Commissioner of Police and other officials. He is also accused of issuing threats, allegedly with the intent to provoke a breach of peace, incite public disorder, and undermine the authority and dignity of public servants. The incident was reportedly captured on video and later circulated on social media.

Based on the complaint, a criminal case was registered at Huzurabad police station under Sections 189(3), 126(2), 132, 299, 196, and 351(2) read with 190 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The case was subsequently transferred to the CID for further investigation.

Officials have asked the MLA to appear with proof of identity and any documents or material relevant to the case.

The notice also lays down several conditions. Kaushik Reddy has been directed to cooperate with the investigation and appear before the Investigating Officer as required. He has been instructed not to commit any offence while the notice is in force, not to tamper with evidence, and not to directly or indirectly influence or threaten any witnesses. He has also been asked to fully disclose all facts within his knowledge relevant to the case and to produce documents, records, electronic devices, or any other material when required.

Further, he has been directed to furnish details of any co-accused in the case, including their roles in the incident, and to appear before the court. “Failure to comply with this notice without lawful excuse shall render you liable for appropriate legal action,” the notice stated.
