HYDERABAD: The Telangana Mineral Development Corporation (TGMDC) generated a record revenue of Rs 1,008 crore in the 2025-26 financial year, up 36 per cent from previous year’s Rs 738 crore.
The corporation also supplied 9.86 lakh metric tonnes of sand for government works during the financial year, registering a 72% increase compared to the previous year, ensuring uninterrupted execution of public infrastructure and development projects.
To improve sand availability, the TGMDC established 17 sand bazaars at the district-level and four sand bazaars around Hyderabad. Through these sand bazaars, about 3.71 lakh metric tonnes of sand were sold during the financial year 2025-26.
According to the officials, as part of enforcement and monitoring measures, sand mining operations were streamlined across districts with strict adherence to government guidelines. Coordination with district administrations and various departments was strengthened to prevent illegal mining and transportation while ensuring smooth operations.
The corporation also ensured uninterrupted online sand booking throughout the year, providing customers with 365-day access. A transparent sand booking system with randomised allocation was implemented to ensure equal opportunity for all customers.
Under surveillance measures, CCTV surveillance and weighbridge systems were integrated with the Mines Surveillance System for real-time monitoring. A pilot project for deployment of Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras was also launched at key highways and sand reaches.
Apart from revenue generation, the corporation has also created direct and indirect employment opportunities for local villagers, lorry owners, and drivers involved in the sand supply chain. Tribal societies in Bhadradri Kothagudem and Mulugu districts have also benefited economically from sand operations.
