HYDERABAD: The Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) of the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy (SVPNPA) has sought an explanation from trainee IPS officer Uday Krishna Reddy over allegations of sexual misconduct.
A senior police officer said that although the accused is in judicial custody, ICC members may record his statement in jail. After examining his explanation, the complainant’s statement and other witnesses, the committee may recommend action independently of the Hyderabad police investigation.
The case was registered by Attapur police on the complaint of a woman trainee officer and was later transferred to the Women Safety Wing. Following the victim’s statement, police invoked additional charges, including rape.
Investigators said the accused has not handed over his mobile phone, which they consider crucial evidence. Police are, however, collecting other evidence, including statements from the victim and witnesses.
Meanwhile, Hyderabad Police Commissioner V C Sajjanar said the complainant was fully cooperating with the investigation, which is continuing.
