The Telangana High Court on Tuesday granted the state government a final opportunity to place complete facts on record in a batch of petitions challenging the delay in revising minimum wages, posting the matter to August 20 and making it clear that no further time would be granted.
A bench of Chief Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh and Justice GM Mohiuddin noted that the issue raised in its July 28 order remained unanswered, particularly the impact of the government’s failure to issue final notifications under the Minimum Wages Act, 1948, before the Code on Wages, 2019 came into force on November 21, 2025.
Petitioners’ counsel Chikkudu Prabhakar argued that minimum wages in several scheduled employments had remained unchanged for nearly two decades and that the latest revision could dilute existing wage protection.
The state noted that workers continued to receive minimum wages along with Variable Dearness Allowance, revised every six months.
The bench directed the state to file a comprehensive affidavit and place the revised wage notifications, issued on May 30 and effective from June 1, 2026, before the next hearing.
