PEDDAPALLI: Urea production at Ramagundam Fertilizers and Chemicals Limited (RFCL) was disrupted following a blast in the ammonia plant pipeline head on Saturday morning.

The incident triggered panic at the plant, with workers rushing to safety. However, RFCL authorities said all workers were safe and no casualties were reported. Repair and restoration works have been taken up on a war footing, with officials expecting production to remain suspended for around 10 to 15 days.

The shutdown has raised concerns over urea availability at a time when Kharif agricultural activities are gaining momentum and demand for fertilisers is high across Telangana.

A griculture Minister Thummala Nageswara Rao urged the Centre to intervene immediately over the RFCL shutdown. In a letter to Union Health Minister JP Nadda, he highlighted the importance of RFCL in meeting the urea requirements of farmers in Telangana.
