Centralised kitchen to open in Manthani today for 40K students

HYDERABAD: A centralised community kitchen, aimed at providing breakfast to over 40,000 government school students, will be inaugurated at the Agricultural Market Yard in Manthani, Peddapalli district, on Monday.

The facility, established under the school breakfast programme, will cater to 40,052 students from 694 government schools and 17 junior colleges in Peddapalli and Bhupalpally districts. IT and Industries Minister Duddilla Sridhar Babu will inaugurate the facility.

According to officials, the kitchen has been set up in an 8,000-sq-ft shed allotted by the state government at the Manthani Agricultural Market Yard. It houses a centralised kitchen, milk processing unit and food laboratory to ensure food quality, hygiene and safety.

The automated kitchen can prepare 5,400 idlis, 2,000 dosas and 3,000 puris an hour. Its cooking vessels can prepare sambar and curry for around 5,000 students in two hours, while the rice-cooking equipment can prepare rice for 1,000 students in 15 minutes.

The facility also has automated vegetable washing and cutting units, a milk processing unit, RO water plant, boiler plant, central gas bank, an effluent treatment plant, and a system to convert kitchen waste into biogas.

The breakfast menu, designed with guidance from the National Institute of Nutrition, includes idli and sambar on Monday, puri and aloo kurma on Tuesday, dosa and chutney on Wednesday, upma and chutney on Thursday, millet idli and sambar on Friday, and bonda and chutney on Saturday, the officials added.
