HYDERABAD: Government Whip Aadi Srinivas on Monday accused the BJP of indulging in political grandstanding over fee reimbursement arrears and said the saffron party has no moral right to speak about the problems being faced by students.

Responding to state BJP president N Ramchander Rao’s hunger strike over fee reimbursement dues, Srinivas said that the BJP was trying to claim credit by raising an issue over which it preferred to ignore during the previous BRS regime.

He alleged that the previous government had left behind fee reimbursement arrears of around Rs 8,000 crore. “Why didn’t BJP leaders undertake hunger strike during the 10-year rule of BRS? Why didn’t they fight against KCR? Why aren’t they speaking about the arrears left by the KCR government? Why are they targeting our government?” he asked.

Stating that the Congress government was moving ahead with a clear plan to address the issue, he said that around Rs 2,300 crore was required every year for fee reimbursement and that, from the current academic year, the government planned to transfer the funds directly into students’ accounts through a green channel.
