KHAMMAM: Predicting that the number of Assembly constituencies in Telangana would increase from 119 to 182 following delimitation, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Friday said the next Assembly elections would be held in May/June 2029 and asserted that the Congress would win 117 seats to retain power.
After launching e-pattadar passbooks and disbursing the final phase of Rythu Bharosa assistance at Jagannadhapuram in Chintakani mandal, the chief minister addressed a Rythu Aseervada Sabha, where he claimed that the BJP-led Centre was moving ahead with the Delimitation Bill and that Telangana could see an increase in both Lok Sabha and Assembly constituencies.
Alleging that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah had weakened parties such as the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Revanth said they were attempting to consolidate political support for the Delimitation Bill. “There is a possibility that they may succeed in their sinister plan. Telangana’s Assembly seats may also be increased,” he said.
He said the next Assembly elections would not be held in December 2028 but in May/June 2029, after the number of Lok Sabha seats in the state increased from 17 to 26 and Assembly seats from 119 to 182. He asserted that the Congress would win 117 of the 182 Assembly seats and form the government for a second consecutive term.
Rejecting BRS working president KT Rama Rao’s claim that an internal Congress survey had projected 78 seats for the BRS, Revanth questioned how any survey could predict electoral outcomes when candidates and party strategies had not yet been finalised. “The Congress will win 117 Assembly seats. I vow on Bhadrachalam Rama,” he declared.
‘Kaurava vamsam’ will be eliminated from TG: Revanth
Describing the next Assembly elections as a “Kurukshetra”, Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Friday said the “Kaurava vamsam” — a reference to former chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao’s family — would be eliminated from Telangana politics.
Recalling his prediction before the 2023 Assembly elections that KCR would be confined to his farmhouse after losing power, Revanth said it had come true. “Now I say well in advance that after the next elections, KCR’s family will be wiped out from politics,” he said.
Revanth also alleged that differences had widened between BRS working president KT Rama Rao and former minister T Harish Rao. Claiming that KCR had sidelined Harish during the BRS’ second term, he alleged the former minister was holding secret talks with the BJP and challenged him to take an oath in the name of Lord Rama at Bhadrachalam and KCR that he was not in touch with the saffron party.
Referring to BRS MLC K Kavitha’s recent remarks, Revanth alleged that she had hinted at a possible merger of the BRS with the BJP out of fear of pending cases. He also recalled her allegation that the BRS had received Rs 1,400 crore from Andhra Pradesh contractors.
Responding to KTR’s recent visit to the Kannepalli Pump House, the chief minister said indiscriminate operation of the Kaleshwaram project barrages would inundate Bhadrachalam, including the Sri Sita Ramachandra Swamy temple. “Should Bhadrachalam be sacrificed for your dirty politics?” he asked.
The chief minister also announced an engineering college for Madhira following a request from Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka. Bhatti said the government had extended interest-free loans worthRs 67,000 crore to women, enhanced the loan limit for women Self-Help Groups to 10 lakh, provided Rythu Bharosa assistance to Rs 16.81 lakh farmers and was spending Rs 14,000 crore annually on free power for the agriculture sector.
