HYDERABAD: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Friday registered a case against Special Grade Deputy Collector in the Urban Land Ceiling (ULC) wing in Medchal-Malkajgiri, Marri Vamsi Mohan, for allegedly possessing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.
ACB sleuths conducted simultaneous searches at multiple locations in Hyderabad and Rangareddy districts for nearly 12 hours and reportedly unearthed assets suspected to be worth around Rs 100 crore in the open market, sources said.
During the investigation, officials detected a suspicious land transaction involving an eight-acre agricultural land parcel in Survey No 17 of Piglipur village in Abdullapurmet mandal of Rangareddy district. According to an official release issued by the ACB, the land was allegedly purchased in 2023 in the name of Vijay Bhasker, the father-in-law of the accused officer. Sources said the land was later handed over to private individuals through gift deeds.
Vamsi Mohan, who had earlier served as the RDO of Serilingampally, is alleged to have amassed huge wealth through corrupt practices and dubious means.
The ACB officials conducted searches at his residence in Vanasthalipuram, his office premises in the ULC wing at Medchal, and 11 other locations linked to his relatives, associates and suspected benamis. ACB Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Laxmikanth Reddy said around 10 to 12 teams carried out searches at 13 locations from Friday morning.
Official owns 19 plots, two flats & a farmhouse
According to ACB officials, assets worth approximately Rs 6.22 crore were identified during the searches. The properties allegedly unearthed include 19 open plots valued at around Rs 4.46 crore, an independent house at NGOs Colony in Vanasthalipuram, two flats at Manikonda and Majidbanda collectively valued at nearly Rs 1.12 crore, and a two-acre farmhouse at Narrepally in Ibrahimpatnam worth around Rs 10 lakh.
Officials, however, stated that the present market value of the seized and identified properties was suspected to be much higher. The searches also reportedly led to the seizure of Rs 2.1 lakh in cash, bank deposits amounting to Rs 20 lakh, gold ornaments weighing about 122 grams valued at nearly Rs 20 lakh, and two vehicles together worth around Rs 32 lakh.
The case was registered under Section 13(1)(b) read with Section 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, as amended in 2018.
The ACB officials said the accused officer was arrested and would be produced before the Principal Special Judge for SPE and ACB cases in Hyderabad.
