84,000 acres, 200 tanks to be filled through AMRP canal

NALGONDA: Irrigation minister T Harish Rao said that state government will be taking steps to complete pending projects in the state.

He, along with energy minister G Jagadeesh Reddy inaugurated Alimineti Madhava Reddy project (AMRP) low-level canal pump house at Pulya thanda of Peddhavura mandal of Nalgonda district on Wednesday. About 84,000 acres of land will be irrigated and about 200 village tanks, lakes would be filled with the canal water. Total ayacut will be covered by next year due to this canal, he added.

Addressing the gathering, he said that this project started in the year of 1997 and due to the negligence of Andhra rulers the canal works was pending.  After coming to power, Telangana government allotted funds and completed the canal works.

Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao is taking special interest in fluoride affected Nalgonda district and is initiating steps to complete Dindi and Srisailam Left Bank canal tunnel project. Tenders have been invited for the project and the works will start soon, Harish Rao added. Nagarjunasagar is the biggest reservoir in the old Nalgonda district which is renovating the 20tmcft Baswapur, Gandhamalla tanks. About 2,25,000 acres of land would be cultivated under these reservoirs at Bhuvanagiri and Alair constituencies, he claimed.
He also promised to arrange sweet lime market in Nalgonda district headquarters and directed district collector Gaurav Uppal to acquire government land to establish the market.

Energy minister G Jagadeesh Reddy, Nagarjuansagar MLA Kunduru Jana Reddy, Nalgonda MP Gutha Sukhender Reddy, ZP Chairman Balunayak, State Forest Development Corporation chairman Banda Narendar Reddy, Miryalaguda MLA Bhasker Rao and others participated in the meeting.
