HYDERABAD: Two  prisoners from the Central Prison in Warangal escaped in the wee hours of Saturday. Both were lodged at the high security barracks. They used bedsheets to climb up the prison wall.  Though the prison walls are equipped with live electric wire, they managed to escape.
Interestingly, the incident took place a day after DG of prisons VK Singh said that the prisons in Telangana have become vulnerable to jailbreaks.

“Being understaffed and due to the unpreparedness of the guards for any kind of attack, the prisons in Telangana have become vulnerable to jail-breaks. A big bulldozer attack can free inmates in any of the state jails within three minutes,’’    Singh said in the presence of home minister N Narasimha Reddy during an event at Chanchalguda jail Friday.

A day after this, Sainik Singh of Uttar Pradesh and Rajesh Yadav of Bihar, who were undergoing imprisonment in Warangal jail, used bed sheets to scale the wall and flee from the prison in the wee hours of Saturday, after breaking the lock of their prison.

The adventurous act of the prisoners to cross the live high-tension wire just above the wall of the prison, has made the prison department officials awestruck.
“The security measures in our jails are not efficient. Prisoners are coming with bolder and dangerous ideas now-a-days to escape. We also have to upgrade ourselves, and with very less staff it is not so easy. A bulldozer attack on any prison is enough to free inmates within three minutes,” said DG VK Singh Speaking to Express on Saturday.

Responding to a query on safety at Cherlapally prison that houses five Indian Mujahideen suspects, the DG said, “Cherlapally prison is also as vulnerable as other jails. We have CCTV cameras only to cover the high-security barrack. If we install cameras in all the jails and monitor the prisoners’ movements, we fall short of staff. The government has sanctioned `30 crore for security measures in jails, but the amount is yet to be released.”
