ASIFABAD: It has been almost two years since the foundation stone for the Kumaram Bheem memorial was laid by chief minister K Chandrasekhar Rao but the structures yet to be completed.
Forest minister Jogu Ramanna, Adilabad MP G.Nagesh and Asifabad MLA Kova Laxmi visited Jodeghat village on Friday and inspected the progress of work on the memorial to legendary tribal leader Kumaram Bheem, a museum and other works which are nearing completion.
They may invite the chief minister to the function. Asifabad district collector Champalal, Mancherial district collector RV Karnan and other officials participated in the meeting. Jodeghat in the present-day Asifabad district is the birth place of Bheem who had fought valiantly against the Nizams for the liberation of Hyderabad in the first half of the 20th century.
He was born on October 22, 1901 and died on October 8, 1940. K Chandrashekahr Rao, soon after assuming charge as the first chief minister of Telangana, visited Jodeghat on October 8, 2014 in connection with the death anniversary of Bheem and announced construction of a memorial and a museum in the tribal leader’s honour. He also released ` 25 crore for construction.
