Among one of the few restaurants where food doesn’t need to be propped up with accompaniments is Mamagoto that recently launched its new winter menu. Just like its monsoon offerings presented a few months ago, the latest too is replete with well defined flavours. Though the menu is small with just a few items in each of the four sections—starters, mains, signature and
desserts—the offerings are as colourful as the vivacious interiors. ‘‘We want to innovate the Asian flavours as per seasonal changes and build the excitement so that we are seen as the market leader in creativity,” says Kabir Suri, co-promoter of the restaurant.
Suri who is personally involved in structuring a new menu almost every season, takes pride in the fact that the special offerings of the season have indeed done well. “You are doubly encouraged when you get validation from the people you work so hard for,” he says.
The menu comprises Crispy Lotus Stem with Burnt Garlic and Dried Red Chilli, Makati City Discovery (cooked vegetables wrapped in a rice roll, placed on a bed of seaweed and finished with homemade pineapple salsa), Tangtze River Grilled Fish, Tofu with Black Bean Et Pickled Chilli Flavour, Soya Butter Garlic prawns/mushrooms, Kuang River Marinade prawns/fish/ vegetable skewers (one of the best preparations with coriander, garlic and a hint of peanut), South Sulawesi Sticky Rice in Banana Leaf (a dish from the remote Indonesian island, simple and wholesome with local flavours and coconut milk), the Laksa Tribute, assorted Asian mushrooms, stir-fried with snow peas in garlic and more.
Most items on the menu are steamed or grilled, making them extremely healthy, though we wonder why the desserts section had only one option—Mocha Brownie Cake with ice-cream. “This dessert is our signature and you’ve got to try it,” says Rahul Khanna, the co-promoter, adding, “The idea is to celebrate winters with healthy options like Steamed Makati Rolls, fresh mushrooms and fish fillets. On my recommendation, try the beautiful South Sulawesi dishs... I am sure you’ll love it.”
