Renu Jogi was a professor at Indore Medical College and Hospital, when her husband Ajit Jogi became chief minister of Chhattisgarh in November 2000. She shifted base to Raipur as professor at the Jawahar Lal Nehru Medical College Hospital and in 2004, took voluntary retirement when her husband met with an accident.

Renu first became an MLA from Kota in Bilaspur in a bypoll and later successfully contested the 2008 election from there. She has been re-nominated from Kota by the Congress

How will you rate your performance so far?

With co-operation of local officers, I have been able to develop Kota. The Achanakmar-Ratanpur highway has been made double lane. An overbridge has come at Gorella. An anti-terror guerrilla warfare school has been set up. In seven years, my constituency has got seven big bridges.

Your son, Amit, has been given a ticket from Marwahi, a constituency that your husband represented since 2001. Why did Ajit Jogi not contest this time?

I am thankful to Soniaji, Rahulji and senior leaders who felt Amit is qualified to contest. He has worked hard as a Youth Congress worker. Now, he will be concentrating on Marwahi.

Congress has been in the Opposition for 10 years. There are similar apprehensions for this year too.

I am optimistic that the Congress would be voted to power by the people who are disappointed with the BJP. There is no development in most constituencies. Naxal violence has covered almost the entire state. The electorate has become mature and will reject the BJP which is now on the back foot.
