The California Boulevard is a new restaurant in West Delhi that has dared to go beyond butter chicken and dal makhni. The owner, Rajan Sethi, is an ardent Sikh who loves his tikkas, tandoori paranthas and kormas. But the story at the restaurant is starkly different wherein he has tried to plate up international cuisine like Crispy Fried Calamari, Penang Curry Laksa, California Cobb, Salmino Picante, Indonesian Chicken Satay, Hunan Chilli Lamb, Wok Fried Lobster Tai Chi, Meat Fondue, Spanish Churros and more.
In hope to become popular with the people of the region, the restaurant is trying to go beyond just offering multiple cuisines. Named after the popular American landmark, the Boulevard in California, the interiors of the restaurant are very similar to its namesake—cobbled flooring, film posters, wall of fame with screens sharing trivia about your favourite Hollywood stars, a lot of effort has gone into making the space interactive for the guests. “The California Boulevard promises to transport its patrons to a world that smells like America, speaks like America, feels like the American dream and tastes of international affluence. The Harley Davidson parked as décor along with the multi-cuisine chef’s table not only promises but assures an opulent ride ahead,” says Sethi with a smile.
The food was as promising as the ambience. Highlights of the menu were the onion chutney and the garlic chutney which surprisingly went well with almost everything we had. The Prawn Springrolls, served in a shot glass with sweet chilli jam, made for a great non-vegetarian appetiser. For vegetarians, the Spicy Mushrooms could be one of the picks. The best item on the menu, by far, was the Chocolate Gajak Kulfi that came ducked inside a chocolate case. It will surely be something you’ve never tried.
