Unshackled expressions of a free mind

With no fixed themes to explore, with no fixed mould to fit into, with no fixed idea to pour onto the canvas, and with no fixed artistic subjects, artist Amit Dutt is truly unfettered when it comes to expressing himself through art.

With no fixed themes to explore, with no fixed mould to fit into, with no fixed idea to pour onto the canvas, and with no fixed artistic subjects, artist Amit Dutt is truly unfettered when it comes to expressing himself through art. In his latest exhibition Art Sutra, he reiterates his spontaneity, expressing lucidly the many unbound expression of thoughts. ‘‘Art is about freedom. Captivity is inimical to creativity, shrivelling the seed even before it can germinate. Limits and boundaries suffocate and snuff the life out of free expression. The artist within craves to break through and rise into the blue yonder above and around. And thus was Art Sutra born—freeing art from the boundaries imposed by surface, medium, technique and even dimension,’’ says Dutt.

With no set ideas about the colours, symbols, lines and shapes, Dutt was happy that everything came together perfectly when he sat down to paint. ‘‘The various elements communicated beautifully with the canvas and the end product turned out exactly how I had wanted it,’’ says the artist, adding, ‘‘It’s about making art independent of the vehicle of expression and allowing it to dwell in the creativity of creation itself; of infusing life into the ‘what’ of creation without clinging to its where and how.’’
