KTS Tulsi, Senior Advocate and Rajya Sabha MP

Delhi is the most efficient city in the country. It is decades ahead of the other metropolitan cities. Its lifestyle, service and basic amenities are world class,” says senior advocate and Rajya Sabha member K T S Tulsi. “The city is mix of all languages and cultures. It has the global feel,” he adds.

Known for his simplicity, the leading criminal expert is also a former solicitor general and a vintage-car collector. He was recently in the news for seeking the commutation of the death sentence of Devinder Pal Singh Bhullar, an accused in the 1993 Delhi terror attack, which he ultimately secured on grounds of health and the inordinate delay in deciding the mercy petition by the government.

Tulsi, who is known for successfully taking on the Ansal Brothers on behalf of the victims of the Uphaar Cinema tragedy in Delhi, says what needs to change in the city is greater use of public transport. “We should give enough space to pedestrians and cyclists. One should inspire each other by using public transport,” he says.

The Punjab-born legal luminary is no stranger to controversy. He refused to defend the Gujarat government in the Supreme Court after Chief Minister Narendra Modi justified the

Sohrabuddin encounter. However, his most controversial case has been when he was appointed as a special public prosecutor by the Tamil Nadu government to handle a matter pertaining to the Kanchi Sankaracharya for his alleged involvement in the Sankararaman murder case. His is a career of conscience.

Happiest childhood memory: When I participated in moot court competition along with my two other friends and got compliments from the then Chief Justice of Punjab and Haryana High Court

Moment of reckoning: Praise from the Chief Justice (see above) inspired me to earn my bread and butter by becoming a lawyer. This happened at a time when we were about to appear for the civil services exams
