The main focus of the recently launched Diggin Cafe in Anand Lok is to replicate the spirit of the London summers—the picnics, the lazy afternoons, the stretched hours of chatting in the sun, etc. The jury is still out on whether Digvijay Singh Bedi, its owner, has managed to duplicate that, but for now, the 27-year-old restaurateur is happy with guests, mostly students from Gargi College pouring in, thereby giving his cafe a steady business.
While the lad was still in London doing his Bachelors in Finance from the University of Nottingham, followed by his Masters in Management from the London School of Economics, he would eat out almost everyday. ‘‘It was by observing their hospitality culture that I began to formulate my own ideas of what I wanted to do. Soon, I concluded that I wanted to have a restaurant of my own, and here I am,” says Bedi.
If one glances through the restaurant’s menu, one will find everything, from pizzas to burgers to sandwiches and more. It may give you the feel of a multi-cuisine cafe, however, Bedi is quick to point out that the cafe specialises in European cuisine, more than anything else. ‘‘The pizzas, especially, are great. They are my favourite. You should also try some of the offerings from the desserts section. I wish I could pick one and tell you what to try, but because they’re all so good, I suggest you try one for yourself,” he says.
