What is common among artists Mohini Dutta, Shradha Jain, Zuleikha Chaudhary, Krishnarjun Bhattacharya and Vinit Nikumbh? An innate sense of gratification. That’s the first thing their faces and then their words will tell you. The source of that high comes from a sense of accomplishment, and the result is for all to see at Khoj Studios, as it presents its new show, intertwining the world of gaming (video and board games) with contemporary art. Co-curated by Prayas Abhinav, it has been titled Of Games II and is a culmination of creative efforts by five youngsters, who completed their residency at Khoj.
Each time that happens, Khoj director Pooja Sood puts up a happy dance. It’s a moment she relishes and revels in, in its entirety. “Khoj would like to incubate and be a stage for the co-inhabitation of multiple kinds of actors in this emergent community of local and independent game-makers. This community defies any neat slotting and categorisation into any grouping such as art, science, technology or entertainment. This makes it an opportunity for an intersection with an art space like Khoj that celebrates the liminality of practices and seeks to expand the notions of art practice,” she says, adding, ‘‘From games as tools of social engagement and change-making to games which are studies in hardcore lucid experiences, this show explores it all.
